Aging skin and how you can slow it down by speeding cell turnover up.

Let’s start with the basics. Cell turnover is the process by which our skin produces new skin cells that start at the lowest layer of the epidermis and travel to the top layer of skin, then shed off. This is what keeps dead cells from building up on the skins surface.

As we age, this process slows down drastically. What once was a speedy 28 day cell turn over, keeping our skin more taught and wrinkle free, begins to slow and by our mid forties we are looking at about 45 days to do the same thing.

This means dead skin cells build up and take longer to shed, leaving skin dull and aging. Sadly, as a result, fine lines and wrinkles develop, leaving us in a mad rush to find a solution. This is where exfoliation becomes even more important.

We can actually trick the body into speedy that turn over back up. By manually exfoliating the skin, we remove several layers of dead skin. The body has an expectation that we’ve shaken up and it wants to replace those missing layers, so it kicks up the replacement process, causing cell turnover to happen quicker.

Whether you use chemical exfoliation in the form of a serum or physical exfoliation, in the form of a scrub, or even a combination of the two, you will see a marked improvement in the texture, reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and overall appearance of your skin.

We love our Ultra Resurfacing Serum with Sea Algae as a daily exfoliant. With the added benefit of Sea Algae, skin isn’t left feeling dry.
